The `step` CLI is a binary application that is either installed in a user-defined location or default *nix locations for binaries. Read more about uninstalling `step` from various platforms and package managers.
Because the `step` CLI runs on multiple operating systems, some with or without package managers, our installation page describes each platform's installing and removing `step` from client machines.
Note that removing `step` doesn't remove the hidden `.step` directory in the local user's home directory. The `.step` directory main contains files and configurations that a user may want to retain.
